Union Road

This walk should take approximately two hours. It is all accessible for wheelchairs and buggies. There are a number of places where you can stop for refreshments or to use the facilities.
BLACK DOG
Start your journey of discovery here. Union Road is a long winding road that cuts through Oswaldtwistle. The Black Dog is one of the oldest pubs in town. There used to be over 100 public houses.
HOLY TRINITY CHURCH
Across the road from the Black Dog is Holy Trinity Church.
ROE GREAVE ROAD
Roegreave Road is the birthplace of Ethel Carnie.
CO-OP/NEW CHURCH
A Co-op is a shop owned by the shoppers. People could save for Christmas by putting a bit aside every week.
GOBBIN LAMP
Positioned within the library grounds.
JUBILEE GARDENS
Across the road from the library is Jubilee Gardens. At Christmas the Christmas tree is positioned here but the rest of the year it is home to Oswaldtwistle in Blooms first site.
STONEBRIDGE LANE
Stonebridge Lane leads to Fielding Lane and beyond that to Jackhouse Nature Reserve.
TINKER BROOK
The hill down to Tinker Brokk is known as Tinker Brow.
WAR MEMORIAL
Paid for by public subscription this War Memorial is one of the finest of its kind for a town this size.
CHAPEL STREET
This photo shows the Methodist Chapel before the second floor was removed.
THE STRAITS
The former main road of the town before Union Road was built, it still retains its cobbles.
CIVIC ARTS CENTRE & THEATRE
Visible over the rooftops of most houses in town. This former town hall is now home to culture and the arts.
ST PAUL'S SCHOOL
The only primary school on the main road itself it is affiliated to St Paul's Church on Catlow Hall Street.
TREACLE ROW/SCHOOL
Pictures remain of the street before the Technical school was built.
RAILWAY STATION
Technically in Church this is on the boundary between Church and Oswaldtwistle.
